Exactly. You could have an 18 year old Marine handling fully automatic weapons in a war zone. If he gets a hardship discharge he could back home at 19 and unable to own even a semi-auto.
It's utterly bizarre to suggest raising the minimum age to purchase a rifle from 18 to 21, when you allow 17 year olds to join the military and 18 year olds to vote.

One potential good here is that at 18, you're still closely associated with school, but at 21 there's a distance and hopefully maturity. Possible compromise: restriction should be to revolvers only, if folks are worried about home invasion protection.

We all know that if age limitations are implemented it will not stop the issue it is trying to address and the left will pressure for more restrictions until the second amendment is history.

And aren’t the military issued guns locked up in the arsenal when they return? Sounds like their own leadership doesn’t quite fully trust those young ones with guns unless under close supervision. It’s a quandary. -
The Military puts fire arms in Arsenals, to keep them in good working order. They are immediately available when called upon. Most people that own them do the same thing. Most owners have them in safes, only shooting them in safe environments, because they hate to clean them. Lol
