The same people who demand that immigration policy remain unchained after an immigrant and/or refugee commits a terrorist attack - are now demanding changes to gun policy in response to a school shooting.

Difference, Immigration policy can actual change who is legally allowed and can theoretically prevent some attacks. Gun control has proven to have little to no effect on gun crime in the US. Better information, community connectivity, and policing does.

Where was the same outrage and demands for gun control and changes to gun policies when a 5 time felon, "found" a gun, accidentally never knew what it was and shot and killed, murdered, Katie Steinle? Or has his illegal status actually put him into the "understood" bracket?

From another point of view, that gun was initially legally possessed by an American citizen and that citizen did not do his duedilligence in preventing it from falling into the wrong hands. The actual shooter is at fault, but a legal loophole got him the gun.

Was it? The gun was connected to several other instances of gang violence. They don't usually acquire there guns legally.

My point is that it was acquired from someone who owned it legally and they let it fall into the wrong hands. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2015/07/08/us/san-francisco-killing/index.html … . Not claiming the shooter wasn't at fault, but pointing out that there are loopholes -- guns acquired legally sometimes lead to loss of life.

It's not really a loophole when getting the gun (in this case) was an illegal act. I understand your point, but the word loophole is my sticking point. It implies that finding a gun on the street like the perpetrator claims was legal.

The only legal loophole that I can find, that actual exists, is private sales. (your friend selling you their gun.) The reason why it's not a loophole worth plugging, is that most cases the firearms sold are collectors pieces. Also alot states require a FFL intermediate.

What makes it not worth plugging? What would we lose if we did? Unfortunately there aren't a lot of statistics on gun violence due to a law enacted in 1996. Not a loophole, but would want to see this repealed so we could have more accurate information?

I’m sure new gun laws will help. They do such a great job enforcing the existing laws. Look how wonderful the drug war has gone. Made lots of money for the government.
