"If I went to a crime scene and the detectives gave me some DNA, and from the DNA I got the SNP phenotype, I could predict the height of the criminal, plus or minus about 3 centimeters." - @hsu_steve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EjJ5VaJ0fw …pic.twitter.com/rCamxHO8RG

You could also tell if the suspect is male or female. Yup, those are the only two options.

if you know the location of a crime, the height, gender, eye color, hair color etc of the perp, the future Monk, Columbo, Sherlock will be a geneticist.

SNP normally stands for Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms. It's not a phenotype per se. It's just a difference of a single DNA building block (Nucleotide) within a certain stretch of DNA. SNPs can cause phenotypes.

You could also run their dna through the dB of previous convicts since it’s probably one of them.

And it still really wouldn’t make a bit of difference in solving the case. Don’t start dismissing POI’s based on this or the right guy may slip through. It’s interesting but not that helpful, nor would be knowing the nationality.
