Coming from the streets myself, I can tell you THAT is huge. For kids, the chance to learn a trade is more than welcome. Also, as a parent that sees the quality of human that is being churned out of these schools? This is a huge blessing!!!

Maybe. I have serious doubts. Does he have a published plan or course of action on this? Is it in his budget proposals?

I know Mike Rowe is big on vocational training and making blue collar jobs aspirational again. Haven’t seen his plan for doing this. Do you have a link? Does it involve govt spending?

I agree with this sentiment and that college isn’t for everybody. I have tons of blue collar friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. I don’t look down on them or their work and encourage others not to. I would like to see their hard work rewarded with better pay.

But I also think this can go too far when people label all universities as elitist or Marxist or useless or whatever. Universities serve a purpose as much as vocational training. A happy balance is what I’d like to see.

Yes, I agree it’s gone too far and for-profit colleges have become predatory. Certain degrees (mostly technical) will get you ahead with any school, others not so much.

If you shutdown visa programs tomorrow, outsourcing will skyrocket. Unless you go full protectionist and punish companies that move overseas. And that has its own problems (retaliation etc).

Funny thing is, I see this as a runaway free market at work. University tuition rises as subjective value of degrees rise. It’s a feedback loop. This adds to rising inequality like most free market forces do.

Oh, I’ve been through it. I work in tech and I’ve seen it first hand. Thing is shareholders only care about short-term bumps in stock prices. So companies are incentivized to short labor costs. When companies announce layoffs they very often see a rally in stock price on Wall St.
