Likely just the writer seeking self justification. I watched a episode of Luther last night S2, where a man who escaped a burning car and saved his briefcase but let other passengers die. The man tried to prove by creating situations of moral dilemma he was justified.

45 yrs ago we had sex ed in HS The boys/girls had separate classes The last class was both. The last thing that was done was to have a show of hands of guys who would marry a girl with a reputation for being easy Then the instructor told the girls to notice NO HANDS were raised.
