Now we apparently need to ban kids from having best friends... https://health.usnews.com/wellness/for-parents/articles/2018-01-05/should-schools-ban-kids-from-having-best-friends?context=amp&__twitter_impression=true …

I guess in practical terms - they can't police it in the playground or after school - they won't allow pupils to sit next to their best friend in class. They want the smart kids - those who will get down and study - randomly distributed among the stupider ones who gab a lot.

Or in the case of the classic table of quiet shy girls who just like to get on with their work, spreading them out at random potentially among the noisy, boisterous clowns won't do them any good at all. Teacher just leave them kids alone!

It’s too exclusive, the other kids in the class are excluded even though they have their own best friends. They’ll just hold a ceremony at the end of the year on who was the best friend. This is so infuriating, why are we trying to become less human?

If children do not have a chance to overcome adversity, then how do they learn to deal with it? The answer is: they don't learn. We can see this on universities all the time with safe spaces. Do you know what a safe space is called in the real world? A padded cell.pic.twitter.com/GqdDQKK4Wq

This lady gives way too much thought to best friends. You can have more than one best friend. Some children are such introverts though, they only make friends with one person. Usually bc there are bullies or others who act like bullies to the shy kid.

Parents should be teaching their shy ones, it's ok when ur best friend is friends w/someone else and encourage friendships w/more than 1 child. Or teach their child how to be ok being alone. I had friends who would look at me in horror that I ate somewhere alone.
