I guess in practical terms - they can't police it in the playground or after school - they won't allow pupils to sit next to their best friend in class. They want the smart kids - those who will get down and study - randomly distributed among the stupider ones who gab a lot.

Or in the case of the classic table of quiet shy girls who just like to get on with their work, spreading them out at random potentially among the noisy, boisterous clowns won't do them any good at all. Teacher just leave them kids alone!

This lady gives way too much thought to best friends. You can have more than one best friend. Some children are such introverts though, they only make friends with one person. Usually bc there are bullies or others who act like bullies to the shy kid.

It's wrong to teach kids they can't be who they are. Only aggressively disrespectful behavior should be banned; diff. personalities should be honored. I've always gravitated to one to two very close friends. I'm not maladjusted or mean.

If there's really a mvmt to ban "best friendships" the mkting and entertnmt industries will have to get onboard. No fashion or plot lines using phrases like "BFF", "diamonds are a girl's best friend", "dogs are man's best friend". It would be OK to lose, "Loo-HOO-ser", though.
