HR exists to protect the company. Not the employee. Don't ever be fooled into believing they are there solely for you.

Made this mistake once, early in my career.

I've heard way too many stories about employees going to HR only to have it backfire on them. Same with reporting lines, the "ombudsman" or whatever. If you're losing sleep over something, get yourself an attorney first. Hate to say it.

And because there's no where else to put all the nanny state PC busybodies. It's like a daycare system but for "adults".

HR exists to protect their employers from their employees. Sucks for those who genuinely want to help people on the job.
-
They are failing at this and opening up a tonne of potential grievances by promoting victim culture

In Calif. yrs. ago, HR was about payroll, benefits & insurance matters. Slowly it came in steps, social engineering, bit by bit.

They definitely do not exist to be in the side of the employees. They're there to keep the company out of trouble and running smoothly. Not to make sure your secure in your job. Seen to many people go in with documented issues get fired weeks later cuz it's easier.

I got taken into HR meeting with black dude in the office offended I said a caller’s name sounded like something outta the Lion King. I said “If someone phoned in called Hamish McTavish, I wouldn’t think it racist if you said they sounded like something outta Braveheart!”He left.

HR Departments exist to protect the Company and have very little to do with Human Relations.

Yes, while race is not supposed to be a factor in hiring under EEOC, it is a de facto law in that companies must file yearly reports in order to see if they are meeting “Affirmative Action guidelines” for how many minorities they should employ.https://www.cbsnews.com/news/job-hunt-should-i-mention-my-minority-status/ …

Mostly exist because of Government interference in employment contracts, in favour of the employees and against the interests of the employers (votes count). They are a case of rent avoidance behaviour
