Put another way, we can make increasingly reasonable promises to the elderly if we’re more willing to open our borders.

The state wouldn't have to make promises to the old if it didn't steal from the Social Security trust fund for unemployment insurance, pork barrel projects and a host of other expenditures.

And pay them. Where's the benefit?

We must import more taxpayers as collateral so we can borrow even more money.

False dilemma. The state can also raise taxes, particularly on the wealthiest citizens.

Except, we’re importing dependents, not producers.

The state can just print money and distribute money to people, preferably up to a level of 5% inflation. No need to tax anyone.
