Bought a ring, proposed, she said it cost too much, made me return it for a cheaper ring. Been married 17 years.

I knew it! An inverse relationship between wedding cost and divorce rates.

The lowest divorce rate of all? People who never got engaged at all.

Unrealistic expectations...is mainly what it is...also, ppl who r "lucky" enough to deal in that level of materialism are often smug ppl

Of course. Marriage is a covenant with God not a barter with the devil. Some forget though.

Yeah we know which Tribe of Satan worshiping hucksters started that tradition.

My ring cost more than the wedding and reception. Dear husband gave me a 1 carat Canary Diamond. It's a marquise cut. 5 yrs still married.
-
I bet it's beautiful. Every year, around Christmas time, I feel it's my duty to remind those buying diamonds = don't do "chocolate diamonds"

I think if she demands a gigantic diamond, then maybe the fact that you can afford it may be the only reason she's there. I've been there.
-
I am sorry if that was the case. I say If u can find a good and faithful person, hold on to them. The ring is just a symbol.
-
Thank you...I agree. I've been divorced for 15 years. I have to say that loyalty and honesty seems to be a thing of the past.

That maybe true but from my observation men and women just aren't into one another.
-
Honestly didn't read just r/t but always believe spend more on the ring and less on the wedding which last one day!
-
More time should be spent on the relationship and this will be a perpetual endeavor if the marriage is to have lasting values, my take.
