False. Adoption studies have conclusively shown that children grow into the IQs of their biological parents. IQ is at least 80% genetic.https://twitter.com/omelcherson/status/1182247398296428544 …

Intelligence has a lot to do with environment, i'd bet 100 dollars that you'd be less intelligent if you were born in Namibia than you are now with the luck of being born in the first world.

So why do older siblings have a higher IQ than younger siblings?

It's possibly a biological but not genetic factor, such as wombs getting worn out and less suitable for a new embyro after each birth.

"By comparing children who lost an older sibling, for instance, and so were treated as the eldest child, to those who were actually the first-born of their family, the authors showed that the former group had similar IQs to the latter group."

Right. Because the first born has the advantage of not having to compete with other children for attention and food in early development.

See now there is also the fact that my first born took a bit longer to learn things from observing adult. The second one learned much quicker by mimicking older sibling. It’s complicated. Pluses and minuses. In western countries in general we can remove nutrition reasons

Yeah I'm sure it's complicated. I think gender makes a difference, too. Boys tend to take a little longer to learn to speak and potty train at first.

This is the barely submerged reef which the progressive movement founders on. The minute they acknowledge that starting points and ending points are a function of genetics (aka parents) is the moment the extorting money to close the “achievement gap”

El iQ es una muy mala forma de medir la inteligencia, sobre todo cuando no se sabe bien que es la inteligencia. Jordan fracasaría en una prueba de iQ, pero él no es un fracasado.

Anecdotally, I know a few adopted friends that have almost nothing in common in "intelligence" as their adopted parents. Nor eye color come to think of it. Height?

Humans have a best achievable IQ where the hard limit is indeed genetics. Same as height. And like with height a steady access to proper nutrition, a certain level of education and the absence of a severe prolonged sickness while growing up are required to utilize that potential

a person can deliberately rewrite their head, how they think and solve problems, how they prioritize, and some of these optimizations allow further development to both specialist and generalist intellect, but it takes time and effort and forethought to do

That is basically training people (children) how to use their brain. Should be part of what we call education, and if it is a good education system like in Finland it actually is. And it will indeed, as I have described, help reach the maximum possible IQ a person can have.
