My country's health department: 12 months. WHO: 24 months. 18 seems about right.

How do you know this?

Neonates and early infants do not have a functioning immune system, it takes time for it to kick in gear. Breast milk provides the child with the antibodies necessary to combat infection before they can do it themselves. Generally, 18 months is optimal.

My wife usually stopped around 12. The kids lost interest by then too. Anecdote, obviously.
