This dude claims to be pursuing a PhD in Military History, but has never heard of the cold war apparently. I have no idea what universities are teaching these days

The draft is in abeyance only because the technology required of the military requires long term enlistees who are well paid and compensated with benefits. In a larger confrontation, reactivation of the draft is inevitable in order to provide cannon fodder. Only men will die.

Not entirely true. We used to have nuke drills in elementary school in the 80's. Duck and cover.

If you knew anything about the Canadian history of conscription, Canadian government-military relations, or even geopolitics you would know it’s not as simple as world war equals conscription.

I was in the USMC from 85 to 91. We did operation Bear Hunt in S Korea every year. We were convinced we would have to fight Ivan eventually.

I remember us getting a good scare when the Russians shot down that aircraft that strayed too close to one of their installations. Or the time that the US Navy shot down that Iranian passenger jet. Plenty of hair-raising scares in those days.
