Except CO2, which tracks closely with MPG

CO2 is not a pollutant.

Wow sir very sad ,, this is why I alway’s show my support for our President by leaving the Buick running while it is in the Garage
-
Ethel Pat says you should always stay in the car while it is running, and keep the garage doors closed, lest someone steal the car. I haven't tried this.

In my younger years, when I did not own a car, I cycled everywhere, and often drafted buses Once at a stoplight I was behind a really old VW. Wow, did the exhaust smell! Relative to all the other cars on the road Worse than a bus I think The newer technology does work

Yes sir. And while Electric Cars are hyped today, much of electricity is still produced by coal based power plants in many countries. Hence gas run cars may be cleaner than e-cars.

A reference for that claim would be appropriate.

Yep, and there are 1 billion of them currently on the road now around the world compared to ~200 million in 1960. And this does not include trucks, buses, and other gas powered transport. I cannot believe you are considered a leading intellectual of the Far Right.
-
By that calculation, in total that means 5% compared to 1960's reference 100% except if the old vehicles are still on the road. Regardless, you must address the tremendous utility that cars provide. Finally, please include the numbers for the other vehicles since you bring it up.
-
The whole argument is kind of ridiculous. There ARE a lot of old vehicles still on the road that have poor mpg - Stefan’s using his statement to suggest that the entire current fleet emits 99% less pollution. Second, he refers to “pollution” generally - not specifying CO2, vs NO2
-
or other pollutants. Cars have improved massively on many other pollutants, but CO2 emissions are only targeted by mpg improvements. A better statistic to look at, above all, is the rise in CO2 emissions from the transportation sector overall, which is getting worse not better,
-
due to the continued growth in gas vehicle usage, without commensurate improvement in efficiency. But the fact is, to avoid the worst climate predictions we have to improve mpg, phase out most gas vehicles, and improve transportation efficiency generally.
-
Though if you don’t believe in climate science to begin with, I doubt you’ll find anything in this conversation to meet your objectives.
