Most divorced couples will live in separate households which will increase fossil fuel consumption, increase pollution, etc.. It also often means two beds for each child and duplication of other manufactured products. Manufacturing increases CO2 emissions.

Empty homes in the US outnumber the homeless 6 to 1. It's not like we have to build more houses to accommodate divorced people. Are you seriously arguing that a child having two sweaters instead of one is killing the planet? 100 companies produce 71% of emissions.

4 sweaters instead of 2. 2 X-Boxes instead of 1. 2 beds instead of 1. 4 dressers instead of 2. etc. etc. Empty house don't need to be heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. Zero emissions from an empty house.

At the rate that homelessness is climbing in the US, I would also imagine fewer houses would need to be heated, and that increased poverty would lead to less double sweaters, etc...population growth might outpace that though.

Okay. But that doesn't change the facts that I stated.

Just stating facts doesn't a strong argument make. Your facts have to make sense within the context. Fewer people getting divorced in the US isn't going to make a significant impact on climate change, that's my argument. I think you've done a poor job of refuting that.

Nobody said it would make a significant impact on it's own. It's a drop in the bucket. But a lot of what environmentalists want people to do are "drops in the bucket". Their hope is that the total of all the efforts will be significant.

That's my hope too, but I'm not naive enough to not be able to ignore the reality of the numbers. I also think this argument is BS coming from Stefan in the first place. Who is he to interfere in anyone's personal life? Isn't that the government's job? LOL

He's pointing out an inconsistency to support the idea that environmentalism is just a tool that is being used to help destroy the West. When you spot inconsistencies, it does raise questions of ulterior motives.

Everyone has ulterior motives, including Stefan. His motive here, in my view, was not to raise awareness about the environmental issues or politics, but rather to start an inflammatory argument related to an emotionally charged issue, because that's how you get engagement on T.

...but you're right, I'm attacking straw motives. I can't know what you're thinking. I think my criticism of your original point was pretty sound, though. Care to engage with that- or are we just typing lots of exclamation points today?
