As an atheist, I know the answer is yes. We are tribal by nature. What you must realize is that most "atheists" are in fact very religious, only their religion is liberal ideology.
That’s kind of an insult to religion, liberalism is more of a cult.

people are generally irrational regardless of what they believe. But the belief system itself has a foundation in facts- in contrast with cults which have a foundation in authority but not facts.
