It's actually slash and burn, it works for a generation or 2 then has to be rotated like a crop. It's actually not great for the soil, it's a good boost at 1st, then not so much. There is a way of changing that though, you just bury the ash and char. & it stays there for good,. .
-
.. sequestering carbon out of the air. With help of things like mycorrhiza and other like thingys. That's actually how the Amazon was made, "slash and char", and scrap food, pottery, etc.

Higher CO2 levels thanks to move volcanic activity and less elapsed time for lifeforms to sequester carbon. With volcanism on the wane, we're doing a great job of putting some of that desperately needed carbon back (note: BACK) into the biosphere again (note: AGAIN).

CO2 is not the only thing plants need, they require fertile soils and fresh water
-
The higher the levels of co2 the less water is needed. And the soil is fertilised with animal/ serilised human waste. That's why the countryside smells so bad after harvesting. Muck spreading to re-fertilise the soil.
-
the problem is that in a lot of places those cycles are unbalanced, with extraction occurring more rapidly than they can replenish
-
also, the fact that a lot of nutrients probably just end up in landfill due to wasting of food is also another factor
-
Crap needs to be disposed of and contains more nitrates than food waste so
and it is better than dumping it in the sea.

People confuse over-population with things like "deforestation". They are chopping down trees to feed themselves. You see the problem now? You see the cure?
