If your definition of "work" is total collapse when Yang allows a billion people to go on welfare, then yes, it definitely could work.

The financial transaction taxes proposed by Andrew Yang and Bernie Sanders would damage the NYSE/NASDAQ so much. 0.5% tax on every trade? That is ridiculous. A good hedge fund or investor makes 10% a year, so 20 trades would be enough to offset a year’s gains (plus capital gains)
-
Not to mention a huge chunk of the financial sector would just move to London, Singapore, or elsewhere

How long until that $1000 a month gets you as far as $200 gets you today? I’ll say right about the end of fiscal year two before a $300 Walmart trip becomes $700

By spending approx. 3x more than comes in through growth?! How can anyone look at that and think it's in any way doable never mind sustainable (for the 4 or 8 years he might be in office)?!

Well, if it were only the VAT as tax increase, between the VAT & inflation, I think the ordinary American would end up netting around $400 to $600 per month in today's dollars. The rest would be eaten up by VAT & inflation. That's still not too bad though, out of $1000/month.

Well, the government is not going to be able to give back all of the money that it takes from the population. For it to do that, it would have to truly be a profitable business giving real dividends. But the government has been running deficits instead.
