        I get told the same thing often. I have spent 40+ years reading history books. I mostly learned that history is open to interpretation and is biased according to the historians politics,experience,etc.

        True. Our view of the Civil War,WWI and WWII for example is heavily filtered through the eyes of the winners.

        Exactly. Now mind you, there are collections of documents from both sides in all wars that give us reasonable perspective. By reasonable I mean that most History books written are at least in the 80% range of being correct.
