My life was saved in no small part by blood donors.

I donated regularly. They don't like to take whole blood more often than every 8 weeks, so I'd donate whole blood then donate platelets every couple of weeks, then do whole blood again.
-
Then one day I went in and they said, "We can't take your blood today, your blood pressure is too high." I said, "Well, take some out and it will go down." They didn't go for that. I told my Dr. about that later and he thought it was hilarious. He said, "Well, you were right."

Same, Stefan. Worse, I'm the universal donor and do not have the CMV anti-body (O neg neg). I was very sad to find that I could no longer donate.

I can’t donate blood anymore due to medication I have to take for a chronic ailment. But everybody should do it. Not just for society, but for their own mental well being. It feels great to help save lives. Also: Get yourself registered as bone marrow donor!
-
I am a registered bone marrow donor and once got contacted that I was a match for a patient. For a couple of weeks my life had a so much more meaning than ever before. It felt great. But then they found a better fit. Still, it taught me a lot about human nature & myself.

I think I can donate again now that it’s been long enough since my surgery but I was in the same boat.

50-y.o. non-graduate female here (1 yr of college). Donated as often as possible too, but the last time, 2 incompetent women screwed up my arm and then acted like they could care less. No more.

I would donate blood (never have) but I live on the road and whenever there is a blood drive I’m not in town for it or don’t know about it. There aren’t any places near where I live that I can just walk in and give blood.

I am one of the few in my college classes that regularly donates bloodplasma etc. Most of them prefer doing drugs, instead of donating.

I started to donate because I’m O- but the people drawing the blood were often unprofessional and screwed up a lot. Enough.

All adult males who can, should donate blood every 8 weeks. Lowers your iron level. Lowers heart attack risk.
