Pretty well, for about a thousand years. 2 thousand, if you count Byzantium. Sure, Rome fell eventually, but so has literally every empire in history. And don't try and blame multiculturalism for that. You'd be leaving out the crisis of the 3rd century, among so many things

It worked out great on the battlefield. The auxiliaries were either specialized missile techs or elite cavalry. It was important to have the best archers or slingers because with out them the legion was vulnerable to the enemies missiles. Elite cavalry was important too.pic.twitter.com/HEaZaAuWP3
