Just ask those in South Africa what they are doing to those that have came into the country to try to make lives better. How they are rioting, burning down business and setting young men on fire.

The British left the countries in far better shape from what they arrived to. I think it’s the British culture, English language and religion. But the other European countries (Spain, France, Germany colonies) - not so much.

What crippled the Iberian colonies in the Americas was rampant oligarchic and corrupt govts that settled in the Republics after they left. Countries that became Empires (Brazil and Mexico) after independent fared better - until the same oligarchs ruined their dinasties. /1
