Totally agree! We did the math when my wife was pregnant and it was basically going you be a wash. And that was for just or first kid. Didn't matter tho because once my kid was born you weren't going to peel my wife away from the kid for any amount off money. Homeschool now too

If you add up the cost of childcare, plus the expense you incur driving to and from the childcare location and add the time wasted in the process it seems obvious that the parent bringing home the lowest income would want to stay home and raise their child(ren). Makes no sense!

In Quebec daycare is heavily subsidized, cheap compared to other provinces or countries. But to pay for those daycare subsidies, Quebecers are heavily taxed making it difficult to raise a family on a single income.

Both of my parents worked I didn't go to Government daycares my babysitter lived around the corner from us and had kids of her own. When I go visit my old neighborhood I will sometimes stop in to say hi.

I absolutely loved every minute at home with my kids. We owned our own biz so I would hire a babysitter 6hrs x2 wks to go in & deal w the books.

It's an old conspiracy theory, I think proposed by some of the classical liberal school, but it's true! I learnt about it in the 1970-ties. Based on observation that state-regulated school system & soc.welfare in imperial Germany led to destruction of humanity in their society.

Amen, they would save money by staying home with children. Not just with child care.

My accountant said the very same thing. One of her clients wanted to become a stay at home mom, after all the math it only ended up costing them an extra few thousand a year without the her working. That is how expensive child care is.

I agree with the sentiment, but no need for external threats here: Protestant new-worlders abandoned their family in pursuit of material: their progeny do likewise.

I know many women who don't need the extra income, but still prefer work to childcare. They've been told it's weak to rely on their partner financially. Those most eager to go back to work are also the ones to initiate divorce soonest. Just my observation. Telling.
