I think the terms “free market” and “capitalism” should be uncoupled. Free Market - Profiting from voluntary exchange Capitalism - Profiting from the manipulation of capital Socialism IS capitalism.

What if you could just opt out of it? And let the people who want to opt in do so? I would love itemized voluntary taxation, I wouldn't pay a dime for defense or cops and would happily pay for education and healthcare.

Wouldn't that automatically entail you having to care about your own safety in any and all cases? And also not having access to the judiciary system as a whole?

The emphasis on the sacrifice of the individual to the collective is similar between socialism and christianity. Effectively, when it comes to moral standards, they both preach living for others and giving, rather than individual sovereignty. Objectivists know this well.
