There’s a reason they had to scrub the word “Oriental.”https://twitter.com/pearsonified/status/1168934697927434247 …

This is one of the most annoying semantic points in the universe. Indians are not Asians. I know the British screw this up, and I know India is technically part of Asia. But for Christ's sake, "Asians" = China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, etc.

Oriental is a slur now, at least here in California. Where everything is Colonial oppression. But screwing a dude in a bath house is Spiritual.

Which as an oriental, I've always found funny considering the word "Nippon" literally translates as "oriental" in Chinese. The word Orient literally means "sun going up land", but everyone wants to have something to latch onto that they can be terminally offended about.

Perhaps we should adopt the descriptor for ourselves of 'occidental'. I've always like that word - sounds a bit 'accidental', and maybe it is 🙂

It's confusing. Russians are not Indians are not Chinese. So I say South East Asian, since people generally get the geographical idea. Without having to qualify an exact Asian nation instead. Even though Japan or Korea are not SE Asia. And also Europe and Asia are attached😵

The reason is, that the "R" in oriental is difficult for Orientals to pronounce. Owentals is how is sounds.

Doesn't the term Asian in the actual sense mean "large land mass?" If he is talking about race in the Caucasian and Mongoloid sense, then I guess the terminology of the conversation should be addressed.

I've seen them often call those from the Middle East "Asian", as well. Anything for their narrative.
