Work ethic is important, but it requires a strong deferral of gratification, which is related to IQ.https://twitter.com/aczon_michelle/status/1167792461261017089 …

This is where technology can be a great equalizer. I don’t need to have the IQ to do ridiculous math .. just the drive and work ethic to find someone on the planet that can do it for me. Work ethic beats IQ when it doesn’t work everyday

Deferral of gratification seems to me a side effect of one's ability to realistically consider the future. I only say this because perhaps talking about it in those terms will give more people a chance to get better at it, knowing how it's done.

I don’t believe it is anymore .. I think it’s a lot more parenting and how kids are treated and raised in the US that determines work ethic. Life is easy now and information easily available.

First, a point of grammar: ...to find someone on the planet WHO can do it for me. Never refer to a person as “that.” Secondly, does she not realize that the person who can do her math will be highly compensated for his or her specialized, valued skill?

That sounds like absolute horse shit. And “related” is a very loose term.

If it is physical work IQ is important, work ethic as well but common sense seems to one of the rarest of them all lol. Also being lazy, doing stuff half ass and calling it good that should be under the ethic but it is amazing how many "hard workers" do that.

I'd be interested in learning more about deferral of gratification, IQ, and their relationship to addictive behavior, which is all about gratification, and by which many intelligent people have been afflicted.

Let's just ignore how IQ is currently the strongest known predictor of long term economic success & prosperity (more so than SES & muh work ethic, I might add).

Higher IQ -> lower time preference -> better personal resource allocation -> opportunity for investment & compounding of monetary returns -> higher chance of long term success

Industriousness can make up for IQ to an extent.
