"I'm trying to get as far away from myself as I can" from Dylan's Things Have Changed is among the greatest lyrics ever written. Right up there with Lloyd Cole's "I tried to get in touch with my emotions, but they wouldn't return my call."

Dylan's Christian albums have some of the best gospel songs ever.
-
When He Returns is a masterpiece.

That's my personal favorite

Jesus. You don’t get art at all, do you

It’s called catharsis. Otherwise known as a healthy outlet for natural human emotions such as despair, anger, confusion etc. that it was music is for! Expressing complex emotions & providing an outlet for pain.

Ooof awful take

By far his worst. The only explicitly drug related song he's done was Mr. Tambourine Man (Rainy Day Women does have some obvious relation but it's a pun), and I don't remember a single one that's about suicide.
-
Maybe, just maaaaybe, if you really want to see suicidal themes everywhere, you can find something in It's Alright Ma. The guy's profoundly religious, and has always been (even before turning Christian), I don't know where the hell Stefan got these ideas from.
-
It’s trendy and edgy to hate Bob Dylan. I am as against globohomo as the next guy, but I recognize Dylan as an artist in the very top tier.
-
I honestly don't understand why. Okay, he was a leading boomer during the 60s but even then he wasn't doing anything for anyone that not himself. It's not a coincidence that he always fought with his own fans, to the point had his home invaded by crazy hippies and shit like that.
-
He always rejected the idolization of his figure, always rejected his own generation, and throughout his career he was just doing stuff that he wanted to. I mean, he went country in the late 60s and full gospel in the late 70s. His songs are all very personal.

Finally! Someone blows a hole in the Dylan mythology. It's about time
-
I just see an opinion with nothing to back it up ; no hole to fall into.
-
Reading is fundamental.
