I was told by someone who did such things for a living that the worst impact to morale in organizations isn't pay or working conditions or any of the things we normally think makes us happy about our jobs, it's tolerating underperformance.

Well said. I was no good at accounting and they flunked me right out so I went on to do other things. It's not fatal to learn the truth about yourself.
