Seems like an excuse to posit obtuse claims with no grounding in reality.

Yes. I am sure Plato, Aristotle and the other giants of Western thinking adopted a similarly lax approach to analytical rigor.

This is why I've read most of SF's books... Clear concise language, sans obfuscation or elitist pseudo-intellectualism, using words & images accessible to any curious punter. Liberally laced with subtle intelligent humour to ease the brain drain! He cracks me up!

But Stefan, don't you know that most people's heads will explode if you don't use the correctly defined terms when you philosophie- philosophase- philosophile- practice philosophy?

I support Stefan with that! If I will need more formal philosophy, I will find in-between tons of books. Having time constrains, what I want to read is something in the middle ground. Stefan fills that void flawlessly.

Scrutiny is a not a very heavy burden in exchange for considering himself to be the “most influential philosopher” of our days. If his claim is sound, I pity our age. If it is valid, I give up altogether

Isn't a sound argument a valid one? I know a sound argument can turn out not to be valid, but most valid arguments are also sound
