You equate animals with lack of free will and equivocate them with the beastliest behaviors of man, which, at our worst, are never close to the cruelty one animal may impose on another because of the emotional realm we occupy.

As to Christianity and the slow rolling coup by the forces of darkness, there I think you're correct though whether it's because I'm a woman who's undergone various manipulations that she sees as works of the devil or for some more rational reason I'll likely never know.

And because I've already said so much I have to recommend The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper because it's a brilliant series that draws ancient lore into a kind of boxcar children scenario and highlights the insidious mechanisms that can be used by evil forces.
