False. Children are costly. They should be. This encourages women to marry steady reliable providers. Monogamous civilization is based upon the cost of children. Turn children from a cost into an asset through welfare, you undo civilization. https://twitter.com/scarlattifanboi/status/1164739810776485888 …

Children, if raised properly, become assets later in life.

Exactly how subsidization of this investment destroys the incentivization of good parenting.

What? Children were "assets" for most of human history as people had them to grow their tribe and work the farm, or were simply a consequence of unprotected sex. Now that human beings in advanced societies have a choice, they are choosing to have as few kids as possible. Why?

Except we still have so many less advanced socities on earth multiplying at high rates that they will eventually over take everything. Once they do, the societies that once were advanced will devolve down to the level of the overpopulated less advanced societies.

Those societies will hit a status quo just as the US has experienced. As population increases so will productivity & technology. Thereby decreasing a need for a high population. Except for a society that wishes to over turn a more advanced society. Then the goal is poulate

Population is not what causes technological advancement. Intelligence and positive culture are what cause it. As an example, areas in Africa were brought forward thousands of years (and pop exploded) during colonization and they immediately disintegrated after colonizers left.

I am not claiming cause and effect but rather a corrletive relationship between population growth and technology. Multiple factors play into this phenomenon. My tweet was a highly simplified skeletal version of the concept.https://academic.oup.com/qje/article-abstract/108/3/681/1881850 …

actually in farming communities after 8 the kids become assets... finally able to help with labor, light chores etc... the problem is payment without a plan to go further past needing welfare, for that you'd need to pair welfare with mandatory job training ... but then no serfs
