Believing in a higher power which you can turn to in a time of need is a part of human nature. Without a God, people worship the state instead - which is far more dangerous.

I’d say because those on the right set such a terrible example for God.

I'm a conservative atheist. I think religion is good for the vast majority of practitioners. It can also be used for pure evil - but I don't think it is the cause of it. Religious freedom is good. It just isn't for me. I find other ways to feed the goodness inside me.

Yeah, it's also hard for me to imagine that science and religion (as a whole) can live in a single mind. All the creationist stuff and God's plan etc. It just doesn't compute. People are free to believe in anything they want as long as it doesn't hurt others. No aggression, pls.pic.twitter.com/QMlLYyJrAG

Hard to believe the big bang theory for me as well. Most popular theories are: "This is all planned" or "This is all an accident"

Of course, it's unlikely we'll get a 100% proof of TBBT but so far there's more evidence of it than of creation. In the scientific sense, not as in "it looks so logical to me therefore it's been created by a sentient being". Anthropic principle.

You realize most Christians do not literally believe the book of Genesis right? It's metaphorical. The verbiage in the book could very well be a persons description of the exact same event that scientists are describing with the big bang theory.

Because atheists aren’t easily conned.

How come so many who claim to be Christian are on the Right and are anything but in their political beliefs and the things they support

Because most atheists become humanists out of a deep sense of empathy for their fellow humans, which is antithetical to the majority of religious teachings conservatives subscribe to.
