A classic example of backward reasoning: "On average, children whose parents make more than $200,000 a year score about 250 points higher on the SAT than children whose parents make $40,000 to $60,000." https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/09/meritocracys-miserable-winners/594760/ …

I don't know about tall but going to basketball practice everyday would make anyone more athletic, even if they weren't particularly skilled

You would think, but ive been on enough sports teams to know this isnt true. Sports is mostly physical gifts mixed with training. Equal training will never overcome the physical gifts.

You do realize SATs are not intelligence tests and are very much coachable. Going to a good or bad school also is a huge factor.

Expectation creates the opportunity, experience creates the reality & money extracts the most of one's natural ability. An intelligent kid can go so far, but unless they have the support & funding of those that know the system, and the possibilties therin, they fight one-handed

Intelligent kids can go a lot further if they make the effort to go further themselves than if they sit back and wait for someone to give them everything and do everything for them.

Your analogy is way off the mark. The relevant cohort is basketball players' children. You can live in denial if you want, but the fact is that income and educational achievement are directly and tightly coupled. Data doesn't lie (unlike @dkahanerules).

I've often thought this is why pedophiles join the clergy. They think priests are chaste and God will give them strength to resist temptation. When in reality, the good priests had those traits before they ever stepped on that path.

Almost like if your parent's know nothing about wealth building and producing value, they can;t teach it to their kids.. Or like if the parent's don't prioritize education, their kids end up in jobs that don't require education..
