There’s no need to over-complicate this Stef. Sometimes a boy loves a girl and buys something pretty to show his commitment. Whether he’s able to spend $100 or $10,000, it’s all the same, and has zero to do with a future earnings calculation. https://twitter.com/StefanMolyneux/status/1162374276005208066 …

there is an unwritten "rule" that says a man ought to spend an amount equivalent to 1 year salary on a ring. My husband didn't. I wouldn't recommend it. But its the unofficial "rule of thumb" nonetheless.

Me? I'd rather see my future mate saving 50K to make a DP on our home, so we can pay it off before we retire and afford to help our kids thru school. A sweet little ring as a token for the sake of tradition is quite sufficient. Commitment is proof of love, not jewelry.

I bought my ex fiance a 5k engagement ring. Biggest waste of money in my entire life. I recommemd getting her a 200 dollar ring AT MOST and if youre still together at the 20 year mark reward her with a nice one.

What ever happened to the dowry? The father needs to PAY someone to take his daughter off his hands. 😂

Why buy the ring when that money would be better used for the rent.

Wtf? Have you never been young? You advocate marrying young. I got married with no engagement ring because we were that poor. Now we're comfortably middle class in our country. The price of the ring does actually not have anything to so with it sometimes.

It's not really an option for men to spend large on an engagement ring if they wish to buy a home and be financially secure. The latest generation of men will have to be very frugal and extravagant rings are a relic of the past.
