Simply proves capitalism and advertising works. The diamond industry popularized the engagement ring.
-
De Beers coined the phrase "A Diamond is forever" which if course was reinforced by a movie of similar name. The consumer was conned.

The diamond ring is easier to carry than a herd of goats. But the goats give milk, which you can’t say about a diamond. That’s why the truly romantic guy will always choose goats for his beloved instead of diamonds. They may not be forever, but you can always eat them.

Diamonds are neither rare nor are they valuable. I studied Geology at Uni. Diamonds are mined and then held off the market to create false scarcity. Ad campaigns successfully get people to want these stones & to pay an exorbitant price for them. I prefer crystals & pearls.

Are they as super indestructible as they say? I always thought the symbolism of that is what people cling to and consider valuable.

Diamond is #10 on the Mohs hardness scale. I thought it was the marketing that drove diamond sales. Diamonds were once scattered across the land in Africa; they had people string tin cans around their neck & crawl shoulder 2 shoulder in a line picking them up off the ground.pic.twitter.com/Tc60ABAJfI

Dont forget diamonds are worthless, diamond suppliers have enough diamonds to pass out at a local festival , they purposely hold back the supply to make the diamonds seem valuable
