right. That's my point. If women were happier in the 50's they wouldn't be trying to change things in the direction they have gone in, and few are trying to go backward to the 50's.

I'm not sure that follows. Women in the 50's were clearly happier than women in war in the 40s. Women now typically report less happiness than women in the 50's... despite having accomplished more than what women in the 50's hoped for.

There are many factors tat influence general happiness. My point was that if women were happy with their gender roles in the 50's, it seems illogical that they would work to change that.
