Well if a witness turns out to have been blackmailed, isn’t their testimony tossed out in a court of law?

The truth is, we've never been in this kind of situation before. It is the unknown. What if some of the blackmail victims were judges appointed to high courts? What about present or past Presidents?

Then those judges would be removed, and the trial they presided over would be re-examined. That’s still a judicial question though, and not legislative. Low level corruption, such as lobbyists providing favors to key politicians for political support are common.

You have to assume some sort of blackmail is involved as well. If we had to toss out every law that was unduly influenced by the outside world, then nothing would ever get done. Which might be a good thing regardless tbh.

Remember this is a network that was put together over decades. We have no idea how much damage has been done or what were the reasons why some laws were passed. This is how Americans lose confidence in the system.
