A person can be a great parent but terrible at being a partner. My sister’s ex is a good dad to his kids, makes sure their needs are met and exceeded, devotes lots of time to them. A really good dad. He also got blackout drunk, had affairs. Crummy spouse.

Because men don’t always give the same attention to their kids as they do their wife...I have a cousin who is super close with her dad but it ruined his marriage. He wanted to be best friends with his kid and spoil her, not be a parent.

In other mammals 'being a good dad' roughly means 'stay out of the way and don't cause trouble' because 'husbands' are uncommon. Other species display deep pairbonding and affiliation that is not necessarily focused on reproduction despite what our romcom society would say.
