Erm, don't know if I can agree with you on this one. Anyone, regardless of IQ, can feel a desire to understand another person's position and put themselves into it. I could be wrong, but some of the most heinous acts of all time were done by high IQ people.

it is more like OVERALL development of mind -- better mind has room for EVERYTHING. but we can not discount low-IQ empathetic people, sometimes they stuck with empathy to the detriment of other faculties, though more often they stuck with crime to the detriment of empathy :)

In the film series Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant they try to suppose that genetic engineering for IQ diminishes empathy. Some writers do research some fake it... at any rate some medical doctors see patients as statistics rather than people, is that a sign of lower IQ.

I'm an absolute dog nut too, I have 4 of them. There are studies that show dogs study faces, and eyes unlike any other animal outside of dolphins maybe this is how they can tell when we are sad?

It's probably crazy to suggest a dog can Empathise with a human. In fairness. But, I do believe some dogs are More capable of Empathy than some people.

Empathy is far more correlated to the status of the other. Ie family members receive far more empathy than ‘outsiders’. Pretty basic natural system. IQ less important.
