Since Jeffrey Epstein was in Federal custody, why was he put in New York City prison? Some NYC officials could easily have been compromised and/or implicated in his crimes.

The Gov’t prefers to house defendants close to the court where the case is pending, but the Government could have detained him at another federal facility elsewhere (or a contract facility, state or privately run).
