That's what always gets me: Women act like workforce participation is some hard-fought victory, but in reality, as soon as men had created enough clean, safe, comfortable jobs that women actually wanted, women occupied them immediately.

Oil rig worker here. Almost none. I have never seen a female rig hand. Ever. There are a couple in the contractor positions (where I work) but that's a much more cushy part of the rig than what most people think of when they think if oil rig work.
-
Thank you for your hard work! I have a lot of respect for workers like you. I've been out in the field and seen what the environment is like and it's not a walk in the park. I also have uncles that worked as engineers for Chevron. Much respect!
-
Well I'm the onsite geologist, so I am one of the cushy gigs. A lot of those guys do have pretty rough work though. And being away for weeks at a time is always rough, so I appreciate it.

Where they complain about the sexism in temperature since men like it too chilly for 4inch skirts and spaghetti tops?

I had a female mover yesterday, we are retired military with many moves under our belt and I'll tell ya, I've never seen a female mover until yesterday. She was a tough chick.

How many women installed the HVAC system in that comfortable air-conditioned HR office?

I’ve worked in the oil industry my entire life and the closest I’ve come to seeing a woman working in a rig is a female engineer on e-line.

As a woman who has worked in male dominated workplaces all my adult life, I can tell you that women don't take these jobs because it can be very unwelcoming. It isn't women keeping themselves out, it's men gate keeping their professions.

@StefanMolyneux Haha! I consulted on oil rigs for 20 years all over North America. I met exactly 2 females. One geologist, and one mud logger. A woman working on the rig crew? Pfft!! -
Truth!
