Oh yes, until I got my first child I thought it was normal that my wife goes back to work after few months. Now for the sake of my child, I am not sure that is a good idea.Time spent with children is never lost. Your employer or state couldn't care less if you die tomorrow.
Fundamental problem: Those of us committed to our kids and families just don’t have the TIME to compete in influence with the young, or the childless, or workaholic parents. So often the most selfish have the most time to have the most influence.

Prioritizing your life in such a way so as to have more time to do the things that you want isn't selfish, its completely normal and should be strongly encouraged.
