Don't loose sympathy, it's what separates philosophers from sophists. I read something about this in a great book called "The Art of the Argument". If you're feeling frustrated, I highly recommend it!

You realize that even with this, Toronto's homicide rate has nearly doubled (at the very least) since 2012?

By simple deductive reasoning, it has to. There's no way New York's fell much more than a full percentage point, if that, in just a few years. That would mean Toronto's gotten close to doubling, or it did, at the least.
