Nope, thank the ACLU (they were against forced medications of mentally unstable adults) which led to O’Connor v. Donaldson. Once Califirnia gutted their asylums, the rest of the nation followed suit.

I recently spoke to a child psychiatrist, who also told me he is shocked how alarminginy deficient children are in terms of development, intelligence and emotional health. Things are going very wrong, and we all know it.

It wasn't a collapse. It was a deliberate shutdown by feel-good liberals. And many psych professionals have come out in hindsight and said it was a huge mistake.

This was under the auspices of compassion, but the end result was unmedicated schizophrenic people sleeping on air vent grates in winter and wandering aimlessly lost during the day. Some people require humane, clean, custodial care. Massive release wasn’t the answer.

I recall when that happened- Reagan era. There were never so many homeless people on the beaches b4 the mental institutions were emptied so everyone could "go home to their families" Camarillo mental hospital was turned into a community college. The other properties? Don't know
-
I just remember a lot of people dying in the cold. That was so bad here in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic.
-
That's awful! My mom was a clinical psychologist at the time and she was horrified by it. It was completely baffling to me. I didn't understand how they thought all these people would suddenly find somebody to take care of them.
-
It was the beginning of the uncaring. Our force for government that was good was taken over by evil.
-
A lesson we should remember. Never expect the government to do the caring that we ourselves are responsible for.
-
No lesson. A civilized society is one that takes care of those who can’t carefor themselves. Our society has not been civil since wage slavery and institutionalized debt stole away human compassion. Government should be a fail safe, but not a nurse.

Big Pharma pitched pills rather than the prior dormitory, sheltered congregate mental health. It fit the mood of the 60s and 70s Not that the mentally ill could remain compliant So homeless exploded with people unable to handle life self management A very cruel unintended 1/

There’s plenty of awareness about mental health, but I take it you mean the collapse of mandatory visits to mental health institutions.

BTW..I enjoyed your YouTube on our Mental Health Collapse. I have a mentally ill brother and it really hit home. I have tried to get him help to no avail. The doctors let him out everytime. Long story.

-
He is a danger to himself and others but Texas in particular is difficult to get someone committed. Went through a judge last time. They picked him up, psych hospital let him out after a week.

-
In Texas it is solely up to the doctors discretion whether to keep a person in long term psych care once picked up on psych warrant. A horrible loophole here. They let them out because they have no where to keep them. Limited beds and all full.
