So you're a stay at home dad and you're on Twitter for hours. Get off the phone and engage with your daughter.

I don’t have kids, but I consistently know that my friends who are parents and I share a common ability, to listen and consider each others opinions. I see it all too often that people become myopic and use parenting as a scapegoat for mental lethargy. Same-same but different.

If you don't have anything in common outside of being a parent that's true. My brother was a stay at home father, raised 2 daughters. He also had a 5 car garage where he had common friendship with his associates of same. Master Mechanic, hunter, outdoorsman, electrician, and more

Yeah, suddenly talking about inconsequential nonsense becomes less relevant and interesting

And this is why cultivating your social contacts while being a parent is so important. And, to expand on them, especially once your children become older and less time consuming.

That's true. FWIW I think that gap closed a bit when I bought my house. Still living a very different life from parents and married people, though.

This is usually realized in the moment, so true. Then you find a new love for having parent friends.

Yes, your lack of social acuity shines brightly here.

Because people don't truly "grow up" until they become parents...hard to relate with those who haven't similarly "grown".

This is why it's important to get out and do things with other adults. People who have no identity outside of being a parent lose their minds when their kid doesn't need them as much as they mature and then move out of the nest. P.S. I grew up with a stay at home dad.
