If IQ were the only factor China should be more innovative than the US. Other key factors are often discussed, but I would like to suggest one for discussion. Language, written and spoken. The complexity of Chinese and Japanese may hinder these countries ability to innovate.

I've lived in Korea for almost 7 years and have a Korean wife and son, while I've seen the evidence of a high IQ, there's something missing in the freedom department. The culture discourages independent thought. So, while they're very clever, they're not very original.

Interestingly, do a search, there are studies that show, other things being equal, the countries that were more intensively colonised are better off today, than the ones less so, or not colonised at all. And, of course, average population IQ matters.
