Due to the plagues and plentiful infections the Europeans have, they developed a sort of immunity, the way milkmaids were immune to smallpox, so they were probably immune to the blankets and just didn't know.

The "smallpox blanket" myth has been pretty authoritatively debunked by several historians. And how ridiculous to claim Euros had "immunity" to pox, hence why infected blankets were passed about--why did we need to develop vaccines if we had immunity?!
