If that’s the measure of ‘Greatest Band in History,” I nominate Ween.

Love Ween. Saw them live 2 or 3 times. Incredible live band. The Mollusk > Sgt. Pepper There I said it!

Too overblown for me, not a fan of "operatic rock" at all, though they're at least better than Meatloaf.

The bands from the pre-Internet days that impress on YouTube re:view counts are probably (1) Pink Floyd (2) Queen (3) Lynyrd Skynyrd (4) ZZ Top. Notably less views- Les Zeppelin, ELP, Deep Purple.

While I don't elevate any band to "greatest" I had a similar set of thoughts to yours just yesterday when I chose to drive around listening to Queen songs. The recent movie was just spectacular, and I thought about why people seem to be surprised that Rocket Man isn't killing it.
-
But there are few other artists who could kill it like Queen did, no matter their popularity. The Beatles, but not with so much vigor. Michael Jackson, but now many of us have weird mixed reactions to him, whether or not we dug his music.
-
But Queen was, unlike most great rock bands, actually better than even their own popularity. They have so many songs that both dig into the brain, but also inspire great positive emotion and motivation. I can't think of any other band whose music is more often motivational.
