Tim Pool has covered this a lot, and it appears to be the intersectional, liberal, PC and virtue signalling news services which are doing the layoffs, while conservative outlets are expanding and hiring. A lot of news media's problems have to do with an activist outlook.

Ultimately, why would someone want to pay someone else to indoctrinate and attempt to influence them? Why pay for a pay wall or subscription for that? And then ads on sites which pride themselves on lying to influence readers? No wonder these news outlets are foundering.
