Foreign aid steals money from the poor people in rich countries and gives it to the rich people in poor countries. They then use that money to buy weapons so they don’t have to listen to their people or reform that corrupt governments.https://twitter.com/SaraCarterDC/status/1145734943236087810 …

@StefanMolyneux has a point. Everybody knows stories like this, but this is my favorite. Once there where these famous british soccer players who gave their shirts to starving children in Africa. They were stolen at the harbour and sold back to English collectors on Ebay.

I don't totally agree. Foreign aid is all borrowed at interest, so strictly speaking, it is stolen from future poor people in rich countries, their children and grandchildren.

Serious question, can aid ever work? I want to hear a yes... Alternatively, how about 'moral aid', where the only objective is a patient eradication of corruption? Long term project, unpopular with kleptocracy, but morally defensible. A sort of philosophical colonialism.

The first product of taxation is the erection of a border between a government and its citizenry. The farmers create a fence to pen in their cattle, yes?

Paying off and arming a dictator is a lot cheaper than having an occupation force.
