Today is the 100 year anniversary of the Treaty of Versailles. America’s late entry into World War I created such an imbalance of power that the victors could impose terrible terms on Germany. Without America, a just peace could have been negotiated - preventing Hitler and Mao.

They would’ve fought themselves to exhaustion. US meddling set the stage for an even worse war. But at least a lot of money was made.
If WW1 had been revealed as worse than useless, governments would’ve faced revolutions at home. They needed American intervention to claim that they “won.” So what if that meant that Russia was handed over to the Bolsheviks, and the path was laid to World War II? Power.
